Website moved!

July 9, 2008

The CS website has now moved back to our own server at www.communiststudents.org.uk

This allows us much more flexibility and space. The site here will be left up for a few months so that links to articles will still work.

If you have a link to us on your website or blog, please update it!

‘Communists and trade unions’ - videos from Communist University North

June 10, 2008

Here are two more videos from the Communist University North event which took place at Sheffield University in May. The event was co-organised by Communist Students and the Communist Party of Great Britain. These videos are of the session on ‘Communists and trade unions’ which was a debate between Dave Douglas and Alan Stevens. Dave Douglas is a former miner and member of the National Union of Mineworkers, he is also a member of the Industrial Workers of the World. Alan Stevens is a former docker and member of the CPGB.

Letters

June 6, 2008

Here we republish two letters concerning Communist Students attitude towards the ‘Reclaim the Campus’ conference which re-launched the Education Not for Sale front of the Alliance for Workers Liberty. These letters appeared first in the Weekly Worker.

Absurd

I write in astonishment at the absurdity of Ben Klein’s article, ‘Rebranding exercise flops’ (May 22). As part of the “so-called anti-capitalist movement” and as one of the “few anarchist types in tow” of Education Not for Sale, I am astonished that comrade Klein thinks that anarchists can “be won” to accept the principles the CPGB was proposing at Reclaim the Campus. Debating the Marxist programme - videos from Communist University North

June 5, 2008

These four sections of video were recorded at Communist University North which took part at Sheffield University in May 2008. The event was jointly organised by Communist Students and the CPGB. The session was entitled ‘What is the Marxist programme?’ and was a debate between Mike Macnair of the Communist Party of Great Britain and Mark Hoskisson of Permanent Revolution. Mike opens the discussion and is then followed by Mark. Following the general discussion from the floor (which unfortunately we do not have on film) the speakers sum up in reverse order.

Fascist attack on ENS supporter in Huddersfield

June 1, 2008

A statement from the Communist Student Exec:

Communist Students would like to extend our solidarity to the Education Not For Sale (ENS) supporter who was attacked by far right thugs on Friday 30th May in Huddersfield. She was attacked because of her prominent role at the students union and her vocal support of No Platform for the BNP.

During the attack she received a fractured rib and severe bruising. The comrade was also slashed at with a knife. As she was attacked they called her a “Dirty red”, “Filthy Lesbo”, and “Britain-hater” .

It is essential to show our support for the comrade. Far right thugs could have attacked anyone involved in anti-fascism and left wing politics. It is essential to show that these attacks will not deter us from our struggles. This attack shows once again the necessity of propagandising and organising for the self-defence of the workers movement. Communist Students is prepared to work with others in attempts to ensure the physical safety of working class activists and communities.

Communist Students wish the comrade a speedy recovery and are happy to help in any way we can.
